Capturing Life's Special Moments

What to Wear!

One of the first questions Clients ask is: “What should we wear for the photoshoot?”.

My go to answer is always: Complimentary Comfort 🙂

Now what does that mean?  Ideally outfits worn by family members should be complimentary to each other and comfort is key!

My greatest inspiration for finding outfits is Pinterest, I have a board on there with several pins that will give you some great ideas on coordinating outfits.  You can follow me here:  Stonetree Photography

It depends on the type of session, which season it’s taking place in, the clients preference in colours etc. I’ll give you a few examples of my favourite combinations here.

For newborn and maternity sessions, I lean more towards neutrals including whites, off-whites, beiges.  I always love a natural feel to these images so find these colours work the best.

For families, I prefer solid colours and try to limit the amount of colours worn to about 2-3 at most.  For summer sessions, lighter colours such as light blues, pinks, yellows are fabulous.  For fall, warmer colours such as a mixture of raspberry and navy or dark teal with jeans.  For Christmas pictures, warm knit sweaters, reds, black and white look timeless and plaids work well too.  Don’t be afraid of plaids or stripes, just use them minimally so they don’t overpower the main subjects…you 🙂

Be imaginative with any accessories; if you have cowboy boots for the whole family, wear them for part of the session, if you all have a hat you each love even if different styles, it can make for a cute picture.  Super hero shirts…funky accessories…umbrellas even can add a special element.  The  sky is the limit.  I hope this helps give you some guidance, feel free to email me with any questions at info@stonetreephotography.com, thanks for reading!!
